Weaving Reindeer
Weaving Reindeer like these is fun and easy. The visual tutorial linked here is in Russian from a free online tutorial web page, but the steps are so well illustrated that you’ll have no trouble weaving them. (You can also use Google translate to read in your language.)
Reindeer like these are a traditional Swedish craft usually woven in wheat straw, but as you can see, they look great in kraft paper that has been folded down into stripes about 3/8″ wide. Notice that two different colors of paper have been used, adding dimension to the design.
For a long-lasting heirloom reindeer decoration, use 3/8″ or 1/4″ flat reed or ash splints. Dyed reeds would be fun to use, or you can spray with Weavers Stain when your finished for an easy and professional finish.
